Please forward this e-mail to all city councillors and the Mayor. I am very concerned about the City of Calgary's plan to implement this "Guidebook for Great Communities." It would result in drastic changes to many Calgary communities, with nowhere near enough consultation for the people affected. And when people are distracted during a pandemic, major policies that make long-term changes need MORE consultation, not less. There are several concerns with the Guidebook, but the biggest issues are: -- Greatly increased density in the center of communities that have always been single-family housing, including 3-story multifamily buildings as the new norm in places that have always been exclusively one family residential spaces -- The extension of 6-story apartment building locations to almost every commercial street covered by the Guidebook -- Insufficient consideration of how intense densification will impact neighbourhood power grids, sewer lines, and the amount of green space on normal streets All of these are problematic enough, but it's even worse to force them through on such short notice, just a few months before an election. I must insist that any decision and vote be delayed until after the October 2021 municipal vote, so that Calgarians can exercise our democratic right to have a say on this important matter. Thank you for your consideration. (This message has been cc'ed to relevant provincial and federal politicians.)
